• CT
Pneumothorax Appearance in CXR
Image 1:
• The radiolucent area in THE RIGHT costophrenic angle is air (pneumothorax)
• It is unilateral BUT COULD BE bilateral in other cases
• There is NO lung markings SEEN IN THE RIGHT LUNG PERIPHERY
• Radio-opaque area seen in the hilar region close to the mediastinum is
collapsed lung tissue (smooth dense tissues)
• The collapsed pleural lining is usually seen as a vertical line away from the periphery of the lung wall.
• PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS BILATERAL BREAST TISSUE MARKINGS SEEN
Image 2:
This image shows visceral pleural line is observed clearly, with the absence of vascular marking beyond the pleural line towards the periphery of the lung ALSO NOTE THE HEALING RIB FRACTURES
